Procurement Assistant Director – Automotive Components
Position Overview
The Procurement Assistant Director is responsible for leading strategic sourcing, supplier management, and cost optimization initiatives across the automotive components category. This role supports the Procurement Director in developing long‑term sourcing strategies, ensuring supply continuity, driving supplier performance, and enabling competitive advantage for the company’s global automotive business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
Develop and execute sourcing strategies for key automotive component categories (e.g., metal parts, plastics, electronics, powertrain, chassis, interior/exterior parts).
Conduct market analysis, cost benchmarking, and risk assessments to support strategic decision‑making.
Lead RFQ/RFI/RFP processes and negotiate long‑term agreements with suppliers.
Identify new suppliers and technologies to support product innovation and cost competitiveness.
2. Supplier Management & Performance Improvement
Build and maintain strong relationships with global and regional suppliers.
Evaluate supplier performance using KPIs such as quality, delivery, cost, and sustainability.
Drive supplier development programs to improve capability, quality, and operational efficiency.
Manage supplier risk, including capacity constraints, geopolitical risks, and financial stability.
3. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering
Lead cost‑reduction initiatives through VA/VE, should‑cost analysis, and supply chain optimization.
Collaborate with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to identify cost‑down opportunities.
Monitor commodity price trends and develop mitigation strategies for cost fluctuations.
Support annual budget planning and cost forecasting.
4. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with R&D, engineering, quality, logistics, and manufacturing teams to ensure sourcing alignment with product development and production needs.
Participate in APQP, PPAP, and new product launch processes to ensure supplier readiness.
Support global procurement alignment and best‑practice sharing across regions.
5. Leadership & Team Development
Lead and mentor a team of category buyers and sourcing specialists.
Support talent development, capability building, and performance management.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, compliance, and operational excellence.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
8–12 years of procurement or supply chain experience in the automotive industry.
Strong background in sourcing automotive components (Tier1/Tier2 environment).
Proven experience in supplier negotiation, cost management, and project leadership.
Skills & Competencies
Deep understanding of automotive supply chain, manufacturing processes, and quality systems.
Strong analytical skills with experience in cost modeling and data‑driven decision‑making.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, IATF16949, and automotive quality standards.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced, global environment.
Fluent in English; additional languages (e.g., Chinese, German, Japanese) are a plus.
